CD Cover Analysis (HA)

Bruno Mars- Unorthodox Jukebox-
This album cover is a very abstract cover which features a gorilla and the aforementioned jukebox. The Gorilla is used because in his last album, 'The Lazy Song' shot to fame and in that Bruno Mars wore various monkey masks. This has now been associated with him and he uses this image to promote his future products. The Gorilla is also used to fit with the 'Unorthodox' image. The definition of Unorthodox is- "contrary to what is usual, traditional or accepted". This could be reflected in the music on the album but is definitely displayed in the cover of the album as it it obviously not the norm to see a Gorilla at a Jukebox. The worn effect that can be seen on the album cover (Brown antique look in the corners) also suggests that the music is of a different era. This era change is reflected in some of the songs, one of them being 'Treasure'.

The colours used range from a worn beige colour to to a dark red. This red is continue through into the lead single from the album, 'Treasure' which I have already made reference to. In this video they are all wearing red suits which bare striking resemblance to the colour of font used on the artists name on the album cover. The colours used on the album cover are typically associated with 1960's America of which this album is heavily influenced by. The colour red also connotes that there could be danger but it also connotes the more likely feature of love which is heavily referenced throughout the album. The inclusion of a jukebox on the cover suggests that the album isn't all about the artist and more about the actual music. As the jukebox was an iconic feature during the 1960's and has firmly cemented itself in bars and retro settings it could also connote that this album is better when you listen to it with friends or in a social environment such as a bar or party.
The Gorilla paired with the name of the album suggests that it shouldn't be taken serious and was made to be enjoyed and not thought about. It also suggests that the album is going to be something completely different and not what you would normally find in an album.
The front cover is fairly basic which again suggests that the artist wants to focus the audience completely on the music.

Maroon 5- Overexposed
This album cover is very abnormal in the sense that there is a lot going on and that there is  a strange combination of colours that strangely work as they are all from a similar colour palette. The colours included are various different shades on Blue, Purple, Red and also Orange. This creates an eye catching cover that doesn't actually say much about the album itself except but could display the mind and ideas of the band.
