Narrative Theorists (KC)

MKTO 'Classic' holds the Barthes Theory, which are the 5 codes. There is definitely the Cultural aspect of the 1920s theme. which is evident through the choice of Mise en Scene. The semic of the gambling. drinking and care free façade is symbolic to the extravagant lifestyle that they must've living in the 1920s. It is notoriously known as the  'Roaring Twenties' or the 'Jazz Age', which heavily influenced on Popular Culture. During the Great Depression, they all went to lavish parties and it was the imperative decade which included many changes.

The Enigma Code is also present, the audience doesn't know who 'the' girl is. They are constantly guessing throughout the music video as to who the girl they're singing about is. There is a girl at the beginning of the video, which would make the audience guess whether it is her or not. There are many aspects that tease the audience of who 'the' girl is, the boys sing to different girls; which makes it all the more harder. At the lyrics that go through the decades, they dress the girls up in all the decades that hint to the audience the 'classic' look of that era.
